Day 5

May  7

Breakfast at the campsite this morning:  coffee, bacon , fried eggs, cheese, & toast.  Yummy but hardly blog worthy photos.

After breakfast I went for a bike ride,  pretty much repeating the same ride as the other day, but this time my camera battery had plenty of life.

Returning from my ride Joni and I cleaned up our campsite, and headed into Lewes for lunch at Station on Kings, a cafe, bakery, and home and garden market.  The parking lot was filled with cars with Delaware license plates, so it's clearly a favorite among the locals, and the food was fabulous!

Apereol Spritz

corn and crab chowder

gazpacho

peach and burrata flatbread:  sundried tomato pesto, mozzarella, burrata cheese, arugula, fresh peaches, serrano ham, hot honey glaze, balsamic glaze, house flatbread

After lunch Joni perused some shops in downtown Lewes, but found nothing that she couldn't live without.

We then returned to the state park and walked out on the fish peer which extends well into the mouth of Delaware Bay.

Along the horizon an observation tower left over from WW II

Another observation tower, these are all along coast, less than one mile apart

One of the well camolouged year round residents in the park.  At dusk you need to drive very carefully; these guys are everywhere!

For dinner, we returned to downtown Lewes, selecting the Lewes Oyster House for our last dinner in Delaware.  As the restaurant's name suggests, they're all about oysters, so I had a 1/2 dozen which included several Cape Cod varieties.and an oyster po boy for my main dish.  Joni elected a lobster roll and she was so ecstatic about it that our waitress sent the owner to our table to hear her compliments!  For dessert, we split a small dish of home-made ice cream and a home made cookie.  Both were outstanding.  Sorry no pix, I forgot!

After dinner we returned to our campground and enjoyed a fire while we watched the sad ending of the Celtics game.  Ugh!

But the Sox won, and overall we had another great day!
